Im sure it wont have passed people by that the Olympics is officially upon us!
Being a Londoner it has been rammed down our throats for many a month, what with Olympic lanes, warnings not to drive in London, notices that we need to plan our journeys. Well I am pleased to say on the opening ceremony I decided to go to Stratford and see what all the fuss was about… so off I trundled down the Central line, on a not very busy tube, sat outside the park and had Pizza Express with my friend! I am pleased to say, it wasnt silly busy, it wasnt difficult and it was overall a nice pleasent experience! We saw the red arrows fly overhead, we ate lovely pizza and talked about work! Followed by a simple journey back home where drinking continued!
I do admit we have been planning for the Olympics at work for a few years… so its no surprise its going well! Yesterday I was even doing last minute testing of new systems to support the plods during Olympicness… and next weekend I will be ensuring that the plods are happy bunnies… I hope while sitting drinking tea and reading a book… they may moan about silly things but thats normal!
So onto other things… has work got better… nope not really… I am still terribly unhappy but just getting on with it… making the best of a silly bad situation. In hindsight maybe I should have thought that working for a company that has the same mentality as BT did in the 70’s probably may have not been my best moment! And believing I can set the world on fire, on my own with just the grey stuff between my ears was probably slightly immature view of the business world.
On the upside… I have “Project Exodus” which is basically me trying to work out how the fuck I get out of there! This is progressing pretty well… although moving from a role thats UK based where I have a fair bit of lattitude (mainly because I ignore people) to a role that is international working in a strict remit of “we want to take over the world!” is probably slightly more restrictive! On the upside.. the idea of being out of the country 3-4 days a week sounds like a nice way to avoid paying income tax 🙂 – And think of the airmiles!
On the love life side…. well thats a dead horse and im bored of flogging it… so therefore will stay single and abstain from sex and relationships forever (at least I could always join the church!).
I did also decide to cut some ties… sometimes in life its a good idea to just take a step back and look at things in perspective. Im a very strong headed person who “wears their heart on their sleave” (as my former boss once said), resulting in precedence in life falling squarely in the work side of my brain, through inability to understand the other side of my life. Seeking approval from people should not drive my life.
